Miraa May addresses personal and universal subjects with a straightforward yet vivid lyrical approach. Rooted in R&B, her work shifts fluidly between intimate acoustic ballads and an array of club-oriented styles including garage and grime. The British Algerian singer and songwriter first appeared on record as a teenager in 2012, then gained wider attention with N15, the 2016 EP produced by Salaam Remi that arrived shortly before she signed to Island Records. Following two further EPs, she assembled the MOBO-nominated full-length Tales of a Miracle, which features Mahalia and Jorja Smith—two peers for whom she had already supplied co-writing contributions.

Born in Algeria, Miraa May relocated with her family to England during early childhood and grew up in North London, where music served as a formative creative outlet. Still in her mid-teens, she released the independent acoustic EP The Beginning in 2012. That project drew the attention of Salaam Remi, whose credits include work with the Fugees, Jazmine Sullivan, and Amy Winehouse; he signed her to his Louder Than Life imprint and collaborated closely on the 2016 release N15. The partnership prompted a major-label agreement with Island, which surfaced in 2018 via the EP Care Package. Several tracks on that project, among them the Jevon Ellis collaboration “Make Room,” quickly surpassed one million streams. In mid-2019 the rapid, garage-tinged JME collaboration “Angles” achieved even greater traction, earning a BBC Radio 1 playlist spot and signaling the arrival of another EP, Dark.

After issuing singles, guest features, and songwriting placements throughout 2020 and 2021, May delivered her debut album Tales of a Miracle in 2022, with Mahalia, Jorja Smith, and Stefflon Don among the guests. She later received MOBO nominations for Best Female Act, Best R&B/Soul Act, and Album of the Year.
