Canada served as the birthplace of Roy Forbes in 1953, the year his father gave him the nickname Bim. An early fixation on the Beatles prompted his debut musical efforts in Vancouver during 1971. Coffeehouse performances along the western Canadian coastline preceded a move to Toronto, which brought a recording contract with A&M in 1975. The Bim name appeared on the albums Kid Full of Dreams (1975), Raincheck on Misery (1976), Thistles (1978), Anything You Want (1982), and New Songs for an Old Celebration (1985). He used the name Ray Forbes for A Christmas Album (1985) and Love Turns to Ice (1987), and in 1989 he helped establish the group UHF (Ulrich, Henderson and Forbes).
