Biography
Nigerian producer, singer, and songwriter Blaq Jerzee rose to prominence as one of the nation’s leading hitmakers, amassing an extensive catalog of production credits for major artists while simultaneously building his own recording career. Born Okhuofo Isaiah Oshrioameh on November 15, 1986 in Lagos State, he first entered music at age thirteen by joining his church choir. There he mastered keyboard, drums, and saxophone before beginning to craft beats for emerging Nigerian groups. Over time he evolved into a versatile producer boasting an impressive roster of collaborations that includes Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Sarkodie, and Mr. Eazi. His stage name originated from a childhood nickname earned by repeatedly arriving at choir practice wearing a sweater, or “jersey,” instead of a school uniform because his family could not afford multiple sets of clothing.
Following his production of Wizkid’s smash hit “Fever,” the singer urged Blaq Jerzee to issue his own material. Subsequent releases such as “Arizona,” “Olò,” “One Leg Up,” “Bags,” and “Chele” achieved notable success, with many featuring the same artists for whom he had previously produced. His sound merges Afro-beat, Afro-Pop, and R&B into a style that feels simultaneously fresh and familiar, marked by smooth flow, clever wordplay, and memorable hooks. His debut album, Lost Files, was released in 2023.
