Daniel Morgan Ball and Kris Platt, both ex-members of the Irish alternative rock group More Than Conquerors, now produce dreamy, off-kilter pop as Blue Americans.

Serving in the Belfast quartet from 2009 through 2015, the pair delivered punchy, melody-driven alternative rock. Once the band dissolved, they toned down the guitar work and turned toward lyrics of a more inward-looking nature. Adopting the name Blue Americans from a cigarette brand, the musicians began issuing their own sleekly crafted, candidly emotional pop material on the self-run Oil Tape label in 2017. After tracks such as “Ceremonies” and 2018’s “Apparition,” Blue Americans issued their first EP, Sum Yen, via LAB Records in 2019. The follow-up EP Holy Goo then appeared in successive parts over the ensuing months.
