Biography
In the wake of Children of Bodom's official closure in 2019, guitar virtuoso Alexi Laiho teamed with his former bandmate Daniel Freyberg to launch Bodom After Midnight the next year as a melodic death metal vehicle intent on driving the incisive blend of melodic death and power metal associated with their prior group toward fresh extremes. Bassist Mitja Toivonen of Santa Cruz, drummer Waltteri Väyrynen from Paradise Lost, and Lauri Salomaa, the touring keyboardist for Children of Bodom, completed the five-piece lineup, which delivered its sole live performance in Helsinki during 2020. Laiho's death from health complications that December led Freyberg and the remaining musicians to abandon the project, leaving behind the posthumous three-song EP Paint the Sky with Blood, issued in 2021.
