Originally from Montreal, Boom Desjardins first reached Canadian listeners in the late 1990s through his role in the québécois rock group La Chicane. The ensemble took shape after Desjardins and guitarist Alain Villeneuve began working together in 1993, with Martin Bedard, Christian LeGault, and Eric LeMieux completing the lineup only in 1996. Their initial release, the 1999 album En Catimini, captured a Juno Award along with double-platinum certification. The next project, Disparu, matched that reception and opened doors to performances abroad. Around the same time Desjardins founded his Boombox imprint beneath DKDD. A string of prominent media engagements, most notably his stint as professor on the Star Academie television series, prepared the ground for his exit from La Chicane and the start of a solo path. Fans greeted the November 2004 arrival of his self-titled debut with immediate enthusiasm, and the record ultimately surpassed 130,000 copies sold. Sustained national-chart visibility and a subsequent sold-out tour confirmed both the album’s impact and the artist’s forward momentum.
