Formed in 1986, the Mexican band Caballo Dorado cut their debut album Carretera 54 in 1994, which contained the hit singles "No Rompas Mi Corazón" and "Payaso De Rodeo." The group earned a Heraldo award as best onda grupera act in 1997 and issued No Rompas Mi Corazón the same year. Caballo Dorado followed with Sólo Contigo in 1998 while also writing the soundtrack to the Latin soap opera Rencor Apasionado. Rockanroleando arrived the next year, soon joined by the Exitos Bailables compilations. Contra el Viento appeared next, a set of country songs rendered in Spanish that drew from Dolly Parton and Charlie Daniels. Additional compilations surfaced during this period, yet the subsequent full-length project did not arrive until June 2002, when Escribiendo Una Historia was released.
