Alex Tsiridis and Hüseyin Evirgen established Cassegrain in 2008, having first connected at the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona through their shared passion for electronic music. Turkish-born Evirgen brought a rigorous classical background that began with piano lessons at age seven and continued through composition studies in Istanbul and at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, whereas Greek-born Tsiridis honed his abilities via computer software and an early affinity for IDM alongside broader dance-music influences. The project issued its debut track, the single Cotton, on Mikrowave in 2010; the Dropa EP followed a year later on the Munich-based deep and dark techno label Prologue. Throughout 2012 the duo stepped up its output with additional singles on Modal Analysis, M_REC LTD, Killekill, and Prologue, while DJ appearances, live performances, and online coverage steadily raised its visibility. In 2013 Cassegrain supplied remixes for Dutch techno artist Charlton Ravenberg and for Alexander Kowalski’s Dircksen, joined Tin Man for a collaborative recording, and delivered the six-track EP Tiamat to Prologue. Work on the first full-length album, Centers of Distraction, occupied the pair in 2014; the record appeared at year’s end after the preceding EP Blood Distributed as Pure Colour.
