Italy-born but Berlin-based, Dino Sabatini produces throbbing, mesmerizing techno too energetic and vibrant for the minimal designation. Richly atmospheric, his compositions draw from mythological themes and timeless knowledge, infusing contemporary club music with ceremonial undertones. Initial recognition arrived through Modern Heads, the project he formed with Gianluca Meloni. The duo surfaced in early 2006 via the “Pathology” 12-inch on Elettronica Romana, which carried a Donato Dozzy remix. Several DJs responded to the record, prompting further Modern Heads material on Dozzy Records, Meadowlark, and Mental Groove. Sabatini stepped out alone in 2008 with the No More EP on Prologue. Additional EPs followed on that imprint as well as Sonic Groove and his own Outis Music, accelerating his solo trajectory. His debut full-length, the mystical Shaman’s Path, appeared on Prologue in 2012. After collaborative EPs with Giorgio Gigli, Dozzy, and Edit Select, Outis issued the 2016 follow-up Omonimo. Featuring contributions from jazz pianist Antonello Salis, the album moved away from club emphasis relative to prior work, evoking 1990s ambient techno associated with labels such as Instinct Records and Fax.
