Biography
Cat Burns excels at merging candid lyricism with memorable melodies, drawing from pop, R&B, and folk traditions. Based in London, the performer issued two EPs prior to gaining widespread online traction amid the worldwide health crisis through tracks such as 2020's "Go" and 2021's "Free." An agreement with RCA elevated her standing leading into the 2022 EP Emotionally Unavailable, which paved the way for her first album, early twenties, arriving in 2024.
Raised in Streatham, South London, Burns absorbed gospel, pop, hip-hop, and R&B sounds, developing into a skilled vocalist, guitarist, and emerging composer during adolescence. She honed her abilities performing on the South Bank and sharing acoustic renditions digitally, before issuing 2016's Adolescent, a folk-pop EP featuring intimate, uplifting compositions. After completing studies at the BRIT School, she expanded her following via "Trust Issues" and "Sober," the latter featured on 2019's Naive EP. The 2020 pandemic prompted intensified social media activity, yielding viral hits especially with the empowering "Go." Identifying as queer, Burns increasingly addressed LGBTQI+ topics in an encouraging manner. Her RCA signing brought releases including 2021's "It's Over" and "Free." Emotionally Unavailable appeared in 2022 alongside opening slots for Ed Sheeran and Olly Alexander. The 2023 single "Home for My Heart" with ArrDee reached the U.K. Top 40, and 2024 marked the arrival of her debut LP early twenties.
