Cat's Eyes pairs the Horrors' Faris Badwan with Canadian soprano Rachel Zeffira and layers psychedelic textures over the sentimental tone of 1960s girl-group pop and the male-female pairings once typified by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra. Their debut offering, the Broken Glass EP, surfaced in February 2011; shortly afterward the duo gave its initial live performance inside the Vatican Basilica, where they delivered "I Know It's Over" during a Mass. In March they staged their first complete concert and released the Face in the Crowd EP, followed weeks later by their self-titled debut album. While Badwan rejoined the Horrors to record 2014's Luminous, he and Zeffira simultaneously composed the score for Peter Strickland's drama The Duke of Burgundy. The soundtrack, issued in 2015, brought the pair a European Film Award for Best Composer. Later that year they enlisted producer Steve Osborne for the second Cat's Eyes album, Treasure House, which folded dream-pop and classical elements into its sound. In March 2016, ahead of the release, Badwan and Zeffira disguised themselves as members of a Renaissance ensemble and performed a rendition of "I'll Be Waiting" at Buckingham Palace. Treasure House reached stores that June.
