Biography
Cecilia Toussaint, the Mexican pop/rock singer, launched her recording career in the late 1970s by joining the band la Nopalera, which issued Crece La Audiencia and Tremendo Alboroto while she made her first appearance on screen in 1979. In the mid-1980s she worked as a radio announcer and performed in several popular soap operas. After a stint with the group Abril, the singer/actress formed her own project, Arpía, and released its self-titled album in 1985. Supported by Chilean producer Carlos Narea and following her set at the Rockotitlán rock festival, label executive Tomás Muñoz secured her a deal with Sony Music that yielded En Esta Ciudad in 1987 and the 1990 album Tírame Al Corazón, produced in the U.S. by Ronnie Foster. She appeared in the successful 1991 short film Objetos Perdidos with Daniel Giménez, then issued her first live album, Noche De Día, the next year. Sirena De Trapo arrived in 1993 and Detras Del Silencio followed in 1997. In 2000 the rock soloist earned a Latin Grammy nomination for the song “Como La Nada” and recorded Un Cuarto Lleno De Espejos, produced by La Barranca’s José Manuel Aguilera.
