Chilean vocalist Myriam Hernández first gained widespread recognition across Latin America through her romantic ballads. She issued her debut album in 1988, which featured the hit single “El hombre que yo amo.” The 1990 release Myriam Hernández 2 enabled her to secure a recording agreement with Warner México aimed at strengthening her standing in the industry, yet the disappointing performance of that initial project under the new arrangement sparked mutual accusations between the artist and the label over the shortfall in sales. Her fourth studio effort reached stores throughout the Americas in 1994. Pregnancy prompted Myriam Hernández to curtail the accompanying promotional schedule that year, forcing her to cancel key U.S. appearances. Sony Music subsequently offered her a four-album contract. During preparations for her next project in 1997, the singer collaborated with established songwriters including Monica Naranjo, Armando Manzanero, and Eros Ramazotti. Humberto Gatica produced Todo El Amor, which arrived in January 1998 and placed the track “Huele a Peligro” on Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks. That same year the Entertainment Critics Association of New York (ACE) named Myriam Hernández Best Latin Artist. Y Mas appeared in 2000.
