Biography
Channel Tres works as a songwriter, producer, and rapper, shaping material that stretches from left-field pop and hip-hop to house tracks rooted in the style’s Midwest pioneers. A run of well-received EPs began with the self-titled 2018 release, after which he joined SG Lewis, Robyn, Disclosure, Tinashe, and additional artists on various projects while maintaining steady bookings at clubs and festivals. Real Cultural Shit, his first major-label EP, surfaced in 2023 and preceded further cuts with Diplo and Kaytranada plus the single “Walked in the Room.” The guest-laden debut album Head Rush followed in 2024.
Born in Lynwood and raised in neighboring Compton, California, Channel Tres grew up under the care of his great-grandparents. He took up drums early, performing with his school choir, then pursued further studies in Oklahoma before returning to the West Coast to focus on music full time. Initial credits included behind-the-scenes contributions to Bridge’s “Break the Rules” and DUCKWRTH’s An XTRA UUGLY Mixtape. Solo demos resulted in a February 2018 remix of Aaron Childs’ “Tangerine,” followed two months later by his own bounding house cut “Controller,” which earned rotation on BBC Radio 1 and Australia’s Triple J and appeared on the Channel Tres EP.
In early 2019 he issued the singles “Brilliant N*gga” and “Sexy Black Timberlake,” leading to the August arrival of Black Moses, whose title track featured JPEGMAFIA. The 2020 EP I Can't Go Outside contained appearances by Tyler, The Creator and Tinashe; around the same period he teamed with SG Lewis and Robyn on “Impact” and joined Disclosure for “Lavender.” Subsequent years brought features on tracks by Gus Dapperton, Flight Facilities, Duke Dumont, TOKiMONSTA, and others. Without advance notice, the seven-track instrumental deep-house set Refresh emerged in 2022, soon joined by the Acid/Ganzfeld 12" single. That year also yielded the tracks “Just Can't Get Enough,” “No Limit,” and “6am,” along with appearances on releases from Honey Dijon, Tove Lo, and Mura Masa.
RCA issued Real Cultural Shit in 2023. Guest spots that year included work with Jamie Jones, Tiga & Hudson Mohawke, Kaytranada, and additional acts, after which “Walked in the Room” arrived in December. The full-length Head Rush reached listeners in 2024, featuring Ravyn Lenae, Thundercat, Ty Dolla $ign, Toro y Moi, and Teezo Touchdown.
