Chezile demonstrates that pop success can still unfold gradually over time. His first single, “Beanie,” only began attracting widespread notice a full year after appearing, once it had already accumulated millions upon millions of streams in relative quiet. Listeners who arrived later encountered an expanding catalog that included the EP 47 along with the similarly atmospheric tracks “Wally” and “Still in Love.”

Born Alejandro Sanchez in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2000, the artist spent his teenage years deeply immersed in skateboarding. One standout concert memory from that period was seeing Van Halen perform live, while Frank Ocean’s candid and inward songwriting left a lasting impression. Sanchez soon adapted these influences into his own version of the introspective bedroom-pop sound that dominated the early 2020s, pairing hazy electric-guitar lines with lyrics heavy on feeling yet light on concrete detail so that fans could readily adapt them to personal contexts.

That approach shaped the 2023 release of “Beanie.” Serving as the focal point of his first EP, 47, which arrived the next year, the song built its audience slowly enough that Chezile lacked a fixed residence during its rise and moved between temporary lodgings. Once streams reached the hundreds of millions, his profile became impossible to overlook. Follow-up singles “Wally” and “Still in Love,” built around the same blend of drifting guitar chords, tight drums, and soaring vocals, sustained interest through late 2024 and set the stage for a debut album planned for 2025.
