Biography
Although born in Windsor, Ontario, Christine Fellows spent years traveling widely before settling down. Her upbringing took her through France and Kelowna, British Columbia, where she took on assorted temporary work such as summer tree planting until she discovered her path in Winnipeg during 1993. Once there, she encountered the city’s thriving independent music community and quickly became a central figure within it. That same year she launched her initial band, Helen, which local observers hailed as the “next big thing” out of Winnipeg, yet the ensemble soon dissolved. In 1996 she joined forces with singer-songwriter Keri McTighe to create Special Fancy; the duo issued a lone record, King Me, and then disbanded. After repeated setbacks in the industry, Fellows finally achieved a breakthrough with the 2000 appearance of her first solo effort, 2 little birds. March 2002 brought the release of The Last One Standing through Six Shooter Records. Along the way she collected multiple awards and earned acclaim from both listeners and reviewers while sharing stages with Veda Hille, the Weakerthans, and the Rheostatics.
