A Houston-based regional Mexican ensemble known as Control, or alternatively Grupo Control, concentrates on norteño sounds and presents itself under the title Los Reyes de la Cumbia. Sergio Alberto Degollado on vocals and bass joined forces with José Guadalupe Degollado, who handles vocals and bajo sexto, to establish the outfit; both musicians hail from Control, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Their first full-length release arrived in 1999 via EMI under the title Cumbias Sin Control. Later EMI projects encompassed Control in 2001, Todo Bajo Control in 2002, Controlandote in 2003, Los Reyes de la Cumbia in 2004, Lo Nuevo y Lo Mejor in 2005, and Recordando a Rigo Tovar in 2005, the last of which blended fresh recordings with earlier tracks. The act then shifted to Univision, issuing Mas Control in 2005 and Controlmania in 2006; those efforts yielded regional Mexican chart successes such as “Ella Es una Diosa,” “Llueve Sobre Mojado,” “Viva el Amor,” and “Vuela Paloma.” EMI repeatedly mined the group’s catalog for anthologies that included La Historia in 2003, Celebrando 15 Años in 2005, Lo Basico in 2005, and 30 del Recuerdo in 2006, while Univision followed suit with Para Ti...Nuestra Historia in 2007 and Viva el Amor y Muchos Éxitos Más in 2007.
