Fun-loving R&B singer/songwriter David Brinston entered the world in Marks, Mississippi, during 1959. Gospel performances alongside his siblings filled his childhood, yet he waited until his early thirties before stepping forward with original solo work and inking a deal with Jomar Records of Memphis, Tennessee. Several regional successes arrived during the early 1990s, the largest being the 1993 single “Two Way Love Affair.” Drawing from the traditions of soul forebears Al Green and Tyrone Davis, Brinston maintained a relentless pace of songwriting and recording, issuing fresh albums on assorted labels nearly every year from the mid-1990s onward through the 2000s and into later decades. Standout examples include the festive spirit captured on 2001’s Fly Right and 2008’s Party Time. While maintaining a steady presence on the Southern summer festival circuit, he sustained his irreverent, celebratory approach to R&B through the 2010s, culminating in a 2014 compilation of earlier successes and the all-new set Sidepiece Motel in 2017.
