David Kushner, an American singer and songwriter recognized for blending moody soul-pop with compelling narrative, gained widespread attention in 2022 when his first single “Miserable Man” climbed into the Top 20 across several countries. He achieved greater success the following year with the reflective ballad “Daylight,” which ascended to the top of numerous international charts. Early in 2024 Kushner scored yet another worldwide success with “Skin and Bones,” a track drawn from his debut full-length album, The Dichotomy.

Having grown up in the Chicago suburbs, he turned seriously to music only after finishing high school. After moving to Los Angeles, the self-taught performer and online influencer refined his craft as a songwriter and issued “Miserable Man” in 2022. The earnest, melancholy, and soulful number quickly spread online, bringing him a broad international following and a contract with Virgin Records. Later that same year the song appeared on his introductory EP, Footprints I Found, which also featured the streaming favorites “Burn” and “Mr. Forgettable.” Written in collaboration with Hayden Robert Hubers, Jeremy Fedryk, and Josh Bruce Williams, the gentle “Daylight” launched Kushner’s 2023 campaign; it drew parallels to Hozier and Bon Iver, became his second worldwide hit, and reached number 33 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Dead Man” arrived as another single later in the year, yet it was “Skin and Bones” that marked his next chart entry in 2024, peaking at number 70 in the United States while performing even stronger across much of Europe. Together with the impassioned ballad “Humankind,” these three tracks formed the core of The Dichotomy, which was released in August 2024.
