Biography
David Shephard works as a screen composer whose music for the crime series Longmire remains his signature achievement. He entered the film and television music departments during the early 2000s, supplying additional music across dozens of television productions and serving as orchestrator on features such as The Grudge 2 (2006) and The Monkey King (2014). Between 2012 and 2017 he scored the entirety of Longmire with a lean, atmospheric approach built around guitar and keyboards.
Born in New York, Shephard began formal music lessons at five years old. As a pianist grounded in both classical and jazz traditions, he later accompanied dancers at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance. Drawn to film and television scoring from childhood, he relocated to Los Angeles to collaborate with established Hollywood composers. Early credits include original scores for the shorts Lather. Rinse. Repeat. (2002) and For Which It Stands (2003); his first solo feature assignment arrived with the 2006 thriller Fierce Friend.
