Emerging in 2007, the Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England-based Detroit Social Club blended psychedelic, folk, and soul textures within the British indie rock landscape. What began as singer/songwriter Dave Burns’s private solo recordings evolved from an uncredited Myspace sensation into a full-fledged group whose lineup included Burns handling vocals, guitar, and bass, Johnny Bond on guitar and sitar, David Welsh on guitar, Dale Knight covering keyboard, guitar, and bass, Chris McCourtie on bass and guitar, and David Green supplying drums and percussion. Fiction Records eventually became the band’s label home, issuing the 2008 single “Rivers and Rainbows” followed by “Sunshine People” the next year. Detroit Social Club’s first complete album, Existence, appeared in 2010.
