Biography
Dirty Fences fuse the raw edge of hard rock with old-school punk and the more aggressive wing of arena rock, delivering a swaggering assault from guitar-driven players intent on restoring rock & roll’s irreverent spirit while reveling in the process. The group originated with lead singer and guitarist Jack Daves, bassist and backing vocalist Max Comaskey, and drummer and backing vocalist Max Hiersteiner, three high-school friends from Boston, Massachusetts. In 2009 the trio relocated to Brooklyn, New York, aiming to reach wider audiences. Once settled, they became a quartet by adding guitarist and backing vocalist Max Roseglass. Drawing from MC5, the New York Dolls, the Stooges, the Ramones, and Kiss, Dirty Fences began performing regularly and built a following for their tough yet hook-laden, guitar-centered style and explosive stage presence. Their first recordings surfaced in 2012 as a six-song EP issued by Volcom Entertainment. The band’s debut full-length, Too High to Kross, followed in 2013, also on Volcom. During 2014 they issued two 7-inch singles—a three-song release on Oops Baby Records and a split single with the Shrine on Australia’s Tym Records. Slovenly Recordings handled their second album, Full Tramp. Additional singles appeared in 2016, including “Tommy & C.C.” b/w “I’m Here” on Die Slaughterhaus Records and “Colleen” b/w “Michael & the Slipper Tree” on Obey Records. Dirty Fences intensified their hard-rock approach on the 2017 album Goodbye Love, which featured guest vocals from Christina Halladay of Sheer Mag. That same year Dirty Water Records released an expanded reissue of the band’s debut EP.
