Sonia Kreitzer operates under the Doe Paoro name and merges soul, R&B, dubstep, and somber pop textures from her Los Angeles base. Strong reviews for her independently crafted opening album prompted a contract with Anti-, where she partnered with several Bon Iver affiliates and delivered her first label project, the 2015 set After.

An extended stay in Tibet prompted the Syracuse-born artist to adopt the Doe Paoro identity and integrate Tibetan opera vocal techniques into her stripped-down pop framework. From her Brooklyn residence she began releasing singles in late 2011, then withdrew to a rural cabin near her hometown to complete the self-issued Slow to Love in 2012. The record’s favorable notices attracted Anti- after her relocation to Los Angeles. She formalized the arrangement in early 2015 and promptly issued the Hurricane Sandy-referencing single “The Wind,” produced by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver.

For the subsequent album she enlisted co-producers Sean Carey of Bon Iver and BJ Burton, whose credits include Tallest Man on Earth and Sylvan Esso, and tracked the material at Vernon’s Wisconsin studio. After reached stores in September 2015. On her third full-length, the stylistically retro Soft Power from 2018, Paoro collaborated with Jimmy Hogarth—known for prior work with Amy Winehouse and Sia—while cutting the songs live to tape alongside an accomplished crew of session musicians in London.
