Hailing from Philadelphia, the electronic duo Marian Hill comprises vocalist Samantha Gongol and producer Jeremy Lloyd. Their distinctive aesthetic fuses minimal electronic rhythms with alluring, frequently fragmented and processed vocals alongside a sultry saxophone thread. Following the 2013 debut single “Whisky,” the pair achieved their Billboard entry via the 2016 full-length Act One, home to the Top 30 track “Down.” Their sophomore album Unusual appeared in 2018, after which they continued releasing singles such as the seductive “omg” and the danceable “it never ends” in 2021.

Marian Hill composed “Whisky” during spring 2013 and circulated it among dozens of blogs in search of notice. The track generated early interest, prompting the following year’s first EP Play and the 7" single “Lips.” Mainstream attention arrived when Romanian pop star Inna listed them as co-writers on her song “Diggy Down,” which borrowed the hook from Marian Hill’s “Got It.” Early 2015 brought a signing to Photo Finish/Republic Records and the seven-track EP Sway.

The 2016 release of their debut album Act One yielded the number 21 single “Down,” while the LP itself peaked at number 42 on the Billboard 200. In 2017 they delivered a remix of Billie Eilish’s “Bellyache.” Early 2018 introduced the punchy single “Subtle Thing” and a performance at that year’s Coachella Festival. Their second album, Unusual, arrived in May 2018, returning them to the U.S. albums chart and registering in France. August 2019 brought the single “Take a Number,” featuring Moroccan-American singer, songwriter, model, and activist Dounia; the track later appeared on the self-released 2020 EP Was It Not. After joining Roman Kouder on “Bonjour,” they issued “oOo that’s my type” with Yung Baby Tate in 2021, followed by the additional singles “omg” and “it never ends.”
