Biography
Originating from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Dog Day functions as a lo-fi indie pop quartet that aligned itself with Tomlab, the German label otherwise focused on experimental acts. Seth Smith, who handled guitar and vocals, and Nancy Urich, on bass and vocals, first launched the project as a side effort while both remained active in the Burdocks. Satisfaction with an EP issued in 2005 prompted the addition of a second couple—Casey Spidle on drums and Crystal Thili on keyboard—who had previously performed with the hardcore punk band the Hold. Leon Taheny, producer for labelmate Final Fantasy, informed them that Tomlab sought a new signing. The label then committed to releasing the quartet’s debut full-length, Night Group, in April 2007.
