Biography
A German trio blending contemporary pop and rock with traces of German folk traditions while celebrating beer, romance, and revelry, Die Dorfrocker originated in 2005 when brothers Tobias Thomann, Philip Thomann, and Mark Thomann from Lower Franconia joined forces. Tobias handled vocals and guitar, Philip played lead guitar, and Mark contributed accordion. The siblings began composing material collectively and sent demo recordings to multiple European labels. Ariola Records responded favorably, leading to a contract; their first release, Party, Mädels...Geile Zeit!, reached stores in spring 2007, after which they appeared on the variety program Feste der Volksmusik. They later secured the support slot on Schürzenjäger’s farewell tour and placed fourth in the 2008 Grand Prix der Volksmusik. Although the group promoted their sophomore effort, Jetzt Geht’s Tichtig Ab, released the same year, commercial traction arrived only with the 2010 album Remmi Demmi. That set benefited from the single “Vogelbeerbaum” b/w “Schwarz-Rot-Gold,” the first of several tracks issued with widely viewed YouTube videos. Its performance prompted Ariola to issue the 2011 compilation Alm-Alarm: Das Beste der Dorfrocker, which gathered signature songs, dance remixes, and four new tracks, among them “Auf der Alm,” adopted as the theme for the series Die Alm. The 2012 album Roll den Roten Teppich Aus yielded the hit “Dorfkind,” while another selection, “Tiefkühlpizza (Ingeborg Marie),” entered the singles chart in 2013. In 2014 the band switched from Ariola to Sony Entertainment; their debut for the new imprint, Dorfkind und Stolz Drauf!, achieved their highest placement yet, reaching number 12 soon after release.
