Biography
Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, Emeline Easton records under the mononym EMELINE as an American singer, songwriter, actress, and musician distinguished by a stylish aesthetic, sharp and incisive lyrics, and an alluring dark-pop approach. After putting out multiple singles under her full name, she adopted the EMELINE identity upon relocating to Los Angeles in 2017. Her arrival on the scene occurred in 2020 with the pointed single “6 Foot Deep,” which recounted experiences of misogyny during her rise through the music industry and quickly turned her into a social-media sensation whose track and video each drew millions of streams. Later that year she joined forces with Thievery Corporation’s Rob Garza for the EP Where the Moon Hides. In 2021 she delivered a series of energetic singles—“What It Means to Be a Girl,” “This Is How I Learn to Say No,” and “Flowers & Sex,” the last of which featured the Grammy-nominated electronic duo SMLE—that continued to build her streaming audience. The following year brought the emotionally liberating, R&B-infused singles “Cinderella’s Dead” and “Strut,” both of which reached tens of millions of streams, while 2023 saw her push deeper into shadowy electro-pop with the driving track “Feelings.” Momentum carried into 2024 via the self-empowering, French pop-inflected “Iconique” and the sweet summer anthem “99 Boys.”
