Emmanuel

Emmanuel came into the world as Jesús Emmanuel Acha Martinez on April 16, 1955, in Mexico City. Recognition arrived in his homeland during the mid-1970s, when his command of ballads and his capacity to communicate delicate shades of feeling through song drew widespread notice. Those strengths reached their clearest expression on the landmark 1980 album Íntimamente, which delivered a steady stream of hits. A committed pop artist at heart, he built a reputation for courageously broadening his stylistic reach by drawing on soul, R&B, and gospel traditions. In the studio he is regarded as a demanding perfectionist who insists on working solely with elite songwriters, producers, and engineers. Although his commercial peak occurred in the 1980s, he has continued to issue successful albums across five decades, from 1976’s 10 Razones Para Cantar to 2015’s Inédito. Two years after Inédito he issued MTV Unplugged: Con el Alma Desnuda. His son Alexander Acha has likewise established himself as a notable vocalist.
