Mexican singer/songwriter/guitarist/actor Enrique Sanchez Guzman helped establish Latin rock as one of its earliest figures, launching his professional path in the 1950s as a teenage singing and screen idol modeled on Bobby Darin. He adapted English-language successes such as "Jailhouse Rock," "Blue Suede Shoes," and "Multiplication" for Spanish-speaking listeners while also creating his own hits, among them "Pensaba en Ti," plus original material for the late-'50s rock band Los Teen Tops. Appearances in motion pictures, including 1965's Canta Mi Corazon, strengthened his position in Mexico's entertainment world and opened the door to the mid-'60s television program Silvia y Enrique, which co-starred his wife at the time, actress Silvia Pinal. Acting and recording work continued through the 1970s and 1980s, and in the 1990s and 2000s he contributed to early albums by his daughter with Pinal, Alejandra Guzman.
