A multi-instrumentalist skilled on pennywhistle and bagpipes, Eric Fish pursued both a solo career and membership in Subway to Sally. Erik Hecht entered the world on May 28, 1969, in Treuenbreitzen; under the name Eric Fish he first gained notice in 1988 by claiming victory in an East German talent competition. He helped form the folk group Catriona, which produced a single album during its roughly two-year run before disbanding, after which he joined Subway to Sally in 1992 and assumed lead vocal duties for the band the following year. While still active with Subway to Sally, Eric began performing solo sets in pubs in 1999 and issued his first record, the concert album Auge Zu Auge, in 2004. The practice of delivering extended performances at any available venue gradually expanded his audience, allowing him to fill progressively larger halls. His subsequent studio effort, Zwilling, appeared in 2006.
