FAUVE

Fauve operates as a five-person collective of unnamed musicians, videographers, and graphic designers who call their project Fauve Corp and mark their work with the mathematical symbol for inequality. Formed in 2010, the group began uploading a succession of videos to YouTube that quickly drew intense loyalty from disaffected youth across France while attracting widespread coverage throughout Europe. Their carefully crafted clips and tracks accumulated hundreds of thousands of streams. The sound itself fuses accessible yet abrasive lo-fi and indie-rock elements with electronic textures and spoken-word delivery that hovers between slam poetry and rap, occasionally joined by melodic backing vocals. Despite receiving offers from nearly every major label in France along with most independent imprints, the collective declined every proposal. They maintained a run of sold-out shows throughout Paris and its surrounding areas before issuing their only recording to date, the eight-track EP Blizzard, which appeared in spring 2013 and climbed to number 13 on the French charts.
