Shadowy noise pop outfit Fews formed as a Swedish-based, American-fronted quartet that conducts most of its activities from London. Their initial noisy post-punk and shoegaze-infused songwriting sketches drew interest from multiple labels and producers, prompting the duo behind the material to expand into a complete band. The group then partnered with producer Dan Carey for a series of well-received singles that paved the way for their widely praised 2016 debut full-length, Means.

David Alexander relocated from San Francisco to Malmö, Sweden, in 2013 to collaborate in person with Fred Rundqvist, whom he had first met through online exchanges. Shared enthusiasm for dark, unsettled bands led the pair to compose tracks that drew equally from Krautrock’s looping rhythms and the brooding atmospheres of Radiohead and Interpol. Positive reactions to those early recordings encouraged Rundqvist and Alexander to recruit drummer Rasmus “Rusty” Andersson and bassist Lulu, thereby transforming Fews from a writing project into a performing unit. Extensive sessions with British producer Dan Carey (TOY, Bat for Lashes, Kate Tempest) followed, along with a signing to his London imprint Speedy Wunderground, which issued the band’s debut single “ILL” in 2015. That track showcased their driving post-punk and Krautrock-derived sound and was succeeded later the same year by the follow-up “The Zoo.” Under Carey’s guidance, Fews completed their first album, Means, issued in spring 2016 via Play It Again Sam. The quartet supported the release with a full European tour that spanned 2016 and maintained momentum through additional singles over the ensuing two years, one of which was a cover of Gary Numan’s “Metal.” In 2018 the band returned to the studio for their second album, co-produced with Joakim Lindberg (Echo Ladies, Nightmen). Titled Into Red, the record was previewed by the single “Paradiso” ahead of its early-2019 release.
