Biography
Pete Heller and Terry Farley, operating together as Farley & Heller, issued several Fire Island recordings that highlighted diva vocalists including Loleatta Holloway. The project name comes from the celebrated Long Island resort area long viewed as a sanctuary for New York City’s gay community and its partygoers. The 1998 release “Shout to the Top,” again featuring Holloway, became Fire Island’s strongest performer and one of the year’s most played house records. Further Fire Island productions comprise “If You Should Need a Friend,” “White Powder Dreams,” and “There but for the Grace of God.” In addition to Holloway, recognized as one of the New York garage and house scene’s defining icons, the tracks carried vocals by Mark Anthoni and Love Nelson. Remixes were supplied by established producers such as Frankie Knuckles and Pete Rauhofer, and Junior Boys Own handled the majority of the releases.
