A group of Spanish preteens formed Furious Monkey House under their music teacher’s direction, projecting a self-assured rock sound steeped in ’90s grunge that contradicted their age while employing age-appropriate English lyrics about ordinary subjects. Their first full-length project, Run, reached stores in 2015.

The original members—vocalist Mariña Paz Otero, guitarists Irene Esteban Teijeira and Manu Tomé, keyboardist Amaya Blanco Bello, drummer Carlota Montoya Robles, and bassist/instructor Gonzalo Maceira Hermida, who performed in a monkey mask under the name El Mono Furioso—assembled the band in Pontevedra in 2014. After a promising five-track demo caught attention, they booked sessions at Planta Sónica in Vigo and Abbey Road Studios in London, where Maceira and Iago Lorenzo produced the material. Esmerante/Atresmedia Música released the resulting Run in November 2015.

Festival appearances followed in 2016, among them Primavera Pop in Madrid, and Planeta issued the paperback Furious Monkey House: Corre Mono Corre, which recounted the band’s experience recording Run. Diego Flores assumed guitar duties in place of Tomé the next year. Balancing school with road dates, Furious Monkey House returned to the studio and issued “Echoes,” the lead single from sophomore album Love, Scum & Dust, in June 2019; the full set appeared that September, by which time most members were in their mid-teens.
