Anni b Sweet

Ana López, who entered the world in Málaga during 1988, performs under the stage name Anni B Sweet. As a Spanish indie folk-pop singer and songwriter, she elects to deliver her material in English, a choice shared by her peer Russian Red. Recognition arrived for López in 2008 after she claimed victory in the demo contest staged by Mondo Sonoro magazine, which led to a contract with the independent Spanish imprint Subterfuge Records. Her debut full-length, Start, Restart, Undo, appeared in 2009 and earned widespread critical favor while prompting parallels to Cat Power, Norah Jones, and Regina Spektor. A special edition of that record featured her relaxed interpretation of a-ha’s “Take on Me,” a version later placed in a Spanish McDonald’s television spot. Following an extensive stretch of live dates and promotional work throughout 2011 that took her to France, Mexico, and Japan, the artist issued her second album, Oh Monsters!, in May 2012.
