José Miguel Conejo Torres entered the world on April 30, 1980, in Madrid and performs under the soccer nickname Leiva. Recognition came chiefly from his partnership in Pereza, the band he launched with Rubén Pozo in 1999; the outfit quickly ranked among Spain’s foremost pop/rock attractions throughout the opening decade of the twenty-first century. From their 2001 debut onward, Pereza issued six studio albums, assorted video collections, and a 2010 compilation distributed solely online.

Leiva and Rubén disclosed a temporary split in September 2011, each turning toward separate undertakings. Because Leiva had composed and sung the bulk of Pereza’s singles, anticipation surrounded his first solo album, Diciembre, which surfaced in early 2012. Bolstered by the hit single “Eme,” the record achieved broad popularity.

Pólvora, unveiled in January 2014, surpassed even that success. Entering at number one in Spain, it held a Top Ten position for a month and remained on the national charts for more than a year while also registering in Italy and Mexico. The singles “Afuera en la Ciudad” and “Terriblemente Cruel” likewise reached the Spanish Top 10. Monstruos, the third album, arrived at number one in Spain upon its 2016 release.
