Before launching his independent path, Spanish rocker Iván Ferreiro had already built a strong reputation. He spent thirteen years as vocalist and bandleader of the enduring rock en español group Los Piratas. After that band dissolved near the close of 2003, Ferreiro chose to pause his professional music activities. Together with his brother he began hosting casual weekly sets at a pub in their hometown of Vigo, performed strictly for pleasure. Even without advance publicity the shows quickly drew steady crowds. The sets leaned on covers of Los Planetas, Andrés Calamaro, and Alaska y Dinarama. As original songs entered the mix, the accumulated material soon proved enough for a full album. Released in 2005, Canciones Para el Tiempo y la Distancia stirred enough attention that the Ferreiro brothers launched a tour across Spain, enlisting drummer Karlos Arancegui. In November of that year Ferreiro arranged to rent a house in Buenos Aires for two weeks so that a circle of musician friends could create an entirely new batch of songs. The sessions resulted in Las Siete y Media, which appeared in October 2006. Starting in the final months of the year the same players carried the material on the road through Spain and Latin America. Toward the end of 2008 Ferreiro delivered his third LP, Mentiroso Mentiroso; the first 10,000 copies came with a comic book whose illustrations, each tied to a different song, were supplied by various Spanish artists. By 2010 Ferreiro had found a confident solo stride and returned with his third full-length album, Picninc Extraterrestre. The following year he documented his first live album/DVD, Confesiones de un Artista de Mierda, blending new compositions, collaborations, and audience favorites. In the years after he issued his fourth and fifth studio albums: 2013’s Val Miñor - Madrid: Historía y Cronología del Mundo and 2016’s Casa.
