Xoel López, the Spanish indie auteur born in La Coruña in 1977, earned wider notice through his roles in Elephant Band and Lovely Luna, yet his reputation rests chiefly on the six successful albums issued under the name Deluxe from 2001 to 2008. Overwhelmed by the mounting demands of his simultaneous ventures and rising prominence, he relocated to Argentina in 2009, choosing to begin again by journeying through Latin America and collaborating with local players in intimate spaces, an effort he later brought as a tour to Spain in 2010. Numerous tracks on his debut solo album under his own name, Atlántico, drew inspiration from those travels as well. Issued in 2012, the record surprised longtime listeners by confirming López’s decisive turn toward singer/songwriter territory.
