In the early 1990s, singer/songwriter Antonio Luque launched the Spanish alternative pop/rock outfit Sr. Chinarro. The group first surfaced on the 1992 collection El Colectivo Karma before delivering a self-titled album in 1994, followed by Compito in 1996 and El Por Qué De Mis Peinados in 1997. Drawing chiefly from British alternative and goth rock, Antonio Luque gained notice as one of the most interesting lyricists in the 1990s Spanish rock scene. After the 1998 release of No Se Qué - No Sé Cuántos, Sr. Chinarro issued La Primera Opera Envasada Al Vacío in March of 2001.
