Nacho Vegas stands out as the leading figure in indie and folk-rock circles of his era, recognized equally for his individual work and his many partnerships with prominent acts and musicians. He entered the world in Gijón during 1974 and first gained notice in the early 1990s as a member of Eliminator Jr. Later he helped establish Los Planetas, Australian Blonde, and Manta Ray, yet he eventually chose to pursue his own path. The solo debut Actos Inexplicables appeared in 2001 and quickly emerged as one of the year’s defining indie releases, reaching listeners well outside Spain. Within a pop-heavy environment, Vegas forged a distinctive voice by crafting songs that echoed the approaches of Leonard Cohen and Will Oldham. He maintained momentum between studio albums by issuing the EPs Seis Canciones Desde el Norte in 2001 and Esto No Es una Salida in 2005. A phase of joint projects began in 2006 with the collaborative album Bunbury & Vegas: El Tiempo de las Cerezas, recorded alongside Enrique Bunbury. The following year he joined Christina Rosenvinge for Nacho Vegas & Christina Rosenvinge: Verano Fatal, issued by Limbo Starr and greeted favorably on the Spanish charts.
