Amaral emerged as a Spanish pop/rock outfit that began claiming the top spot on domestic charts with striking regularity once the new millennium arrived. The project centers on the songwriting partnership of Eva Amaral, who handles vocals and guitar and entered the world on August 4, 1973, in Zaragoza, Spain, alongside Juan Aguirre, who plays guitar and was born February 11, 1970, in San Sebastián, Spain. The pair first crossed paths in 1993 while living in Zaragoza and performing with different groups, Eva behind the drums for Bandera Blanca and Juan on guitar in Días de Vino y Rosas. By 1997 they had stepped away from those ensembles to launch their own, relocated to Madrid, and secured a major-label deal with EMI. Their self-titled debut album arrived the next year. Both that record and its successor, Una Pequeña Parte del Mundo from 2000, yielded multiple singles while the duo’s profile climbed in measured steps. The third full-length, Estrella de Mar in 2002, delivered their commercial breakthrough, reaching number one on the Spanish albums chart and producing five singles that also topped the charts: “Sin Ti No Soy Nada,” “Moriría por Vos,” “Toda la Noche en la Calle,” “Te Necesito,” and “Salir Corriendo.” Pájaros en la Cabeza followed in 2005 with comparable impact, again hitting number one nationally and generating five further chart-topping singles—“El Universo Sobre Mí,” “Días de Verano,” “Marta, Sebas, Guille y los Demás,” “Resurrección,” and “Si Tú No Vuelves.” Amid this run the live video El Comienzo del Big Bang: Gira 2005 appeared the same year. After a period away from the spotlight, Amaral resurfaced in 2008 with the double album Gato Negro/Dragon Rojo, which topped the charts, led by the hit single “Kamikaze.” Subsequent releases included “Tarde de Domingo Rara” and “Perdóname.” In 2009 the band issued its first live collection, La Barrera del Sonido, captured at Madrid’s Palacio de los Deportes by Canal +. Having parted ways with EMI, the duo entered the studio in 2011 alongside producer Juan de Dios to track their sixth studio effort, Hacia lo Salvaje.
