Brothers José and David Muñoz formed the Spanish pop duo Estopa, whose self-titled debut arrived in 2001 on BMG-Ariola. Merging flamenco-pop with rhumba-rock, the pair rose to top-selling prominence inside a single year and received accolades as Revelation of the Year and Best Spanish Band at the 2000 Amigo Awards. Destrangis followed in 2001, while the 2004 smash hit ¿La Calle Es Tuya? came after the duo’s cameo in Antonio Mercero’s The 4th Floor. Their remaining 2000s albums—Voces de Ultrarumba in 2005, Allenrok in 2008, and X Anniversarivm in 2009—failed to equal the commercial reach of the first release, yet December 2011’s 2.0 restored earlier heights by updating and advancing their rumba-rock style. The set reached number one and held chart positions across all of 2012. Issued in 2014 as both audio and video packages, Esto Es Estopa entered at number one in Spain, remained in the Top Ten for several months, and registered strong placements in Italy and Mexico. The Muñoz brothers upheld their fans’ expectations with the 2015 release Rumba a lo Desconocido.
