Biography
Efecto Mariposa took shape in 1997 after Susana Alva on acoustic guitar and vocals, Frasco G. Ridgeway on bass and vocals, and Raúl Osuna boarded a train in their hometown of Malaga and headed to Madrid with hopes of launching a music career. Alfredo Baón soon came aboard on drums, and over the following four years the group focused on composing songs, refining its style, and building connections by playing live shows. One year of intensive national promotion and touring paved the way for the release of the band’s self-titled debut album through Universal. That record generated strong interest within Spain’s acoustic rock scene and set the stage for a commercially robust second effort. Metamorfosis brought an opportunity to join Latin pop star Juanes on major national stages. Metamorfosis II appeared soon afterward and included two extra tracks. Once the Universal contract ended, Efecto Mariposa handled production, recording, and funding for its third album, Complejidad. After the October 2005 release, the band maintained an exhaustive schedule of promotion and live dates that eventually prompted a second edition of the record. The fourth album, Vivo en Vivo, is slated for summer 2007.
