Formed in 2000 under the name Xemá, the Spanish rock band that later became El Sueño de Morfeo originally featured vocalist Raquel Rosario and guitarist David Feito, who served as the group’s leader. After issuing one album with Xemá, Feito and Rosario launched a new project in 2003, recruiting guitarist Juan Luis Suárez and adopting the moniker El Sueño de Morfeo. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2005, pairing Rosario’s distinctive, Shakira-esque voice with adult pop/rock guitars and a pronounced Celtic influence; alongside the three central members and a rhythm section, the lineup incorporated both a violinist and a bagpiper, yielding a sound reminiscent of The Corrs. A guest spot on the Spanish television series Los Serrano helped drive strong chart results. The band deliberately extended its reach by touring Latin America, with a particular focus on Puerto Rico, which in turn lifted the single “Ojos de Cielo” onto North American Latin charts and broadened their audience across the region. The follow-up albums Nos Vemos en el Camino in 2007 and Cosas Que Nos Hacen Sentir Bien in 2009 both performed solidly in Spain, each reaching the top three. On the latter release and the fourth album, 2012’s Buscamos Sonrisas, the group adopted a more assertive rock approach while preserving its Celtic foundations.
