Biography
Australian duo Geowulf craft an especially charming variety of luminous, tuneful dream pop that quickly drew listeners their way, above all across Europe, where the pair settled soon after they came together. Formed by Star Kendrick and Toma Banjanin, the project earned early notice through the 2016 singles "Saltwater" and "Don't Talk About You," then delivered its first full-length album, Great Big Blue, in 2018; the follow-up, My Resignation, arrived the next year.
Kendrick and Banjanin grew up in the seaside town of Noosa, Australia, first crossed paths as teenagers, and later relocated to Europe, dividing their time among London, Berlin, and Gothenburg. After Kendrick recorded several rough vocal sketches and invited Banjanin to expand them, the resulting guitar-and-synth-driven dream pop attracted London independent label 37 Adventures, which signed the duo and released their debut single "Saltwater" in 2016; a second track, "Don't Talk About You," followed before the year ended.
The act's audience grew in 2017 with the appearance of "Won't Look Back" and "Get You," both later gathered on the June EP Relapse. During the subsequent eight months the duo concentrated on live dates and work on their first album, unveiling further singles such as "Hideaway" and "Drink Too Much," both of which featured on Great Big Blue when it surfaced in 2018. Following another string of singles, the band issued its second LP, My Resignation, one year later.
