Gino & Geno

Sertaneja duo Gino & Geno launched their recording career in 1970 amid the genre’s formative years. They remained active through much of the first half of the decade before achieving mainstream Brazilian success with the hit record As Águas do São Francisco. An extensive catalog followed across the late ’70s and ’80s, after which the pair largely stepped away from both performing and recording during the ’90s. Their return in 2000 coincided with renewed national interest in the style they had helped pioneer, prompting the swift release of Coração Cigano as a statement of their comeback. Longtime admirer Rick, of the duo Rick & Renner, has since produced several of their projects, updating their established sound for contemporary listeners. The duo’s engaging stage energy is documented on the live CD and DVD sets Ao Vivo and A Galera do Chapéu: Ao Vivo, the latter marking their 22nd original release. EMI International has since acquired and reissued the entirety of their catalog.
