In 2013, three vocalists based in Tennessee came together as Goodman Revival, breathing new life into the legacy of the celebrated Happy Goodman Family, a cornerstone of Southern gospel traditions. The ensemble was assembled by Tanya Goodman-Sykes, who had performed with the original group and is the daughter of its founder Rusty Goodman, the primary songwriter behind many of its hits; she collaborated with her spouse, the producer Michael Sykes, along with vocalist Johnny Minick, a onetime member of the Goodman Family band. Early that year, footage captured the trio delivering the '60s standard "Until You've Known the Love of God," written by Rusty Goodman, during a service at Minick's church in Smyrna, Tennessee, and once uploaded to YouTube, it generated enough attention that the singers began appearing together on a consistent basis. Embracing the timeless repertoire and country-infused gospel style associated with the Happy Goodman Family, they issued their first recording, Songs in the Key of Happy, during January 2015. Their follow-up effort, Still Happy, arrived two years after that.
