Biography
Formed in Seattle, Washington as lo-fi goth practitioners, Grave Babies commenced their musical endeavors in 2009. Danny Wahlfeldt, the group’s de facto leader, began tracking material in his basement with keyboardist Tyler Robinson. Drummer Keith Whiteman and bassist Mitch Saulsberry later joined for live performances. After issuing their debut Deathface through Denmark’s Skrot Up label, the band signed with Hardly Art, which released the singles Pleasures and Gothdammit before unveiling Crusher in 2013. Wahlfeldt described that album’s sound as “the Cure being played through a distortion pedal.” For the next project Wahlfeldt left his basement to record with drummer Mark Gajadhar at the latter’s studio on Orcas Island, Washington; Bryce Brown handled bass, while Matt Bayles mixed and Chris Common mastered the sessions. Hardly Art issued the resulting album, Holographic Violence, in July 2015, marking Grave Babies’ most polished and accessible work to date.
