Groop Dogdrill emerged from Doncaster, U.K., in the early 1990s, channeling high-voltage ideas from the rawest edges of heavy rock into a singular form of straight-ahead rock & roll. Their writing draws on stoner metal frameworks fused with punk's propulsive beats, generating fresh, steady output that matches their distinct artistic direction. The British trio—Damo Fowkes on bass, Pete Spiby handling vocals and guitar, and Hug Kelly on drums—issued its first release, the 1996 single Gentleman's Soiree, while also staging its earliest concerts. Follow-up single Gracelands broadened press attention, allowing the band to cultivate a solid, expanding audience backed by positive regional notices. A lengthy run of dates supporting Cable filled the next stretch of time and concluded in 1997. After a year devoted to studio sessions, the group delivered its debut full-length album, Half Nelson, in 1998. Two years after that first album, they tracked a second studio effort; Every Six Seconds reached stores in 2001 and again drew strong critical response along with solid commercial returns.
