Biography
Gunnar Haslam, a New York resident, cultivated an image as an intrepid DJ and producer soon after surfacing in 2013 with a catalog that moved between abrasive house, lo-fi electro, and expansive ambient techno. He first experimented with production and DJ sets while completing an undergraduate degree in particle physics at New York University. An introduction to Ron Morelli at East Village shop A1 Records placed him within the L.I.E.S. circle, resulting in the 2013 release of debut album Mimesiak. The label followed with Porte Maillot EP and the atmospheric Mirrors and Copulation LP in 2014, while additional material surfaced on Argot, Delsin, and Mister Saturday Night. Regular appearances at Bossa Nova Civic Club and the Bunker led to bookings on multiple continents. Alongside Johannes Auvinen (Tin Man) he formed acid techno duo Romans, whose debut 12" appeared on Global A Records in 2014; Bunker New York then issued Ambulare Aude EP in 2015 and full-length Valere Aude the next year. Haslam returned to L.I.E.S. for third solo LP Lebesgue Measures in 2016. With fellow Bunker-affiliated selectors Justin Cudmore and Mike Servito he launched the Hot Mix DJ collective. Bunker New York put out his fourth album, Kalaatsakia, in 2017.
